Relieving Cervical Spondylosis With the Use of Herbs

Cervical Spondylosis, which is also termed as neck arthritis, is one of the degenerative diseases that mostly affect old people between the ages of forty (40) to seventy-five (75). One of its earliest clinical manifestations is the persistent neck pain that is not normally relieved by ordinary pain killers.

Why is there neck pain in the first place?

Neck pain is only one of the signs and symptoms evident in people suffering from Cervical Spondylosis. In most cases however, neck pain is not the basis of the condition just after it is diagnosed by conducting imaging tests like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CT scan and x-ray.

The episodes of pain felt are due to the increased thickness of the vertebral discs located in between the spinal bones. Bone spurs, or what we call osteophytes, is formed in the area causing slipped discs and bulges. In severe cases of this degenerative condition, chronic pain, loss of sensation along with weakness of the hands and lower extremities are evident.

There are a lot of treatment options you can choose from if you are suffering from Cervical Spondylosis. If your condition is only on its initial stage of development, over-the-counter drugs can already give you relief. Depression is also a contributing factor in this condition. Your doctor may also prescribe anti-depressants for relief of the symptoms.

Most people also go for herbal medications for Cervical Spondylosis. Some herbs can reduce neck pain while some have anti-inflammatory factors. Moreover, there are certain herbs that can reduce stress. Some herbs can also be applied to help relieve pain and numbness in the arms. Herb supplements are also popular for pain management. Although these treatment options had been very useful, it is still necessary to conduct further clinical research to determine its healing properties.

Some herbs that can be used as treatment for both stiffness and pain are Rhus Tox, Lachnanthes and Guaicum. If you are experiencing numbness in your arms, you can use Kalmia Latifolia and Paris Quadrifolia, which work wonders. Consuming Calcarea can help dissolve bony outgrowths in your neck. If vertigo is noticed, Conium Maculatum can actually treat this symptom.

Other useful herbs to treat Cervical Spondylosis include willow, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, black cohosh, stinging nettle, boswellia, sarparilla, meadowsweet and cat's claw. Devil's claw, which is widely used in the treatment of rheumatic problems such as arthritis is also effective as it has anti-inflammatory factors.
